Many Deaths Feared After Plane Collides With Army Helicopter

A Bombardier CRJ700 jet carrying 64 people crashed into the Potomac River near Reagan National Airport after a midair collision with a Black Hawk UH-60 helicopter around 9 p.m. Wednesday. The American Airlines flight was from Wichita, Kan. The helicopter, from Fort Belvoir, Va.,

had three crew members.Emergency crews from Virginia and Maryland responded, with freezing temperatures posing risks to survivors. Reagan airport halted all flights until 5 a.m. Thursday. President Trump and Kansas officials were briefed.The crash highlights growing aviation safety concerns after past near-collisions and warnings from air traffic controllers.
