President Donald Trump has ended taxpayer-funded security for Dr. Anthony Fauci, who received protection in 2020 due to threats during his role in the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump had previously revoked the security clearances of 51 intelligence officials who falsely claimed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a Russian operation.
In a series of last-minute pardons, President Joe Biden granted clemency to individuals, including Liz Cheney and Fauci, to preempt potential retaliation from Trump’s administration. However, legal experts noted that the pardons do not protect them from having to testify if subpoenaed, and they could still face consequences for lying under oath. Federal attorney Jesse Binnall pointed out that pardons wouldn’t prevent them from testifying in civil, criminal, or congressional proceedings.
