14-year-old Abby Wilson accidentally sho t an elk she mistook for a deer while hunting with her father, Don White, during Missouri’s deer season. The area, Boone County, is around 200 miles from where elk have been reintroduced. After inspecting the animal, White contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation who,
confirmed it was an elk, The incident has sparked online criticism, with some questioning whether the girl should be pun ished. While some believe ignorance isn’t a valid defense, others argue she’s still learning and her father handled it responsibly by reporting the mistake immediately.
